Summer Wildflower Wedding in Telluride, Colorado

Summer can be the most popular time for a wedding in Telluride. With warmer weather and snow melting, it opens up the endless locations to make your summer wedding unique. But what are some tips you should know to make your summer wedding personalized and refreshing to you and your guests?

1) Dream your Backdrop! Telluride Photographer Telluride Engagement Photographer Telluride Wedding Photographer Telluride elopement Photographer Telluride Portrait Photographer

When you think of your wedding, how do you invison your location? Is it meaningful? Is it scenic? Is it dreamy? Everyone has a different idea of what they want their summer wedding location to look like. If you're looking to get married in Telluride in the summer, you are most likely looking for a scenic backdrop for your perfect day. Most of the time your wedding photographer will have a list of scenic backdrops that they have scouted out. But, we are always excited to shoot at a new location that YOU found special.

In the summer (usually late June) you can start to find lots of wildflowers around the area. some places will start to bloom sooner than others. While you may start to find wildflowers, you may also encounter snow on the mountain tops. The magic of summers in Telluride, is every summer is different. When scouting the area, think about the possibilities of the summer you will be getting married. Do you prefer a mountain in the background for a stunning eye catcher? Would you rather be near a waterfall for the moving backdrop with a continuous white noise sound? If you're lucky enough you might even find a scenic backdrop with a little bit of everything. Wherever you decided is the perfect spot for YOU, just remember about your guests and how accessible it is for them.

2)Pick Your Flowers

I do not condone actually picking your own flowers unless you have a permit or its on your own property. But what I mean by "pick your flowers" is part of your location. There are so many different wild flowers in Telluride during the summer, some grow in large fields in their own kind, while you may also find a field full of many different variants. Your Telluride photographer will know many different locations that different flowers will grow. If you're having a purple and green themed wedding, you may want to have a beautiful field of lupin behind. Bright yellow sunshine themed, mule ears would be the perfect fit for you. So when thinking of your color theme, think about what flowers grow naturally in that area.

Once you have found the right location and color theme for you, ask your florist if they have an option to add that wildflower into your bouquet for an even more unique and special touch.

3) Airy and Comfortable Attire

Summers can get very hot in Telluride. When choosing your attire, think airy. You will be in your dress longer than the ceremony and reception. You want to be comfortable and not too constricted on a hot day, especially if it is going to start making you uncomfortable on your special day. One think your Telluride photographer will let you know is the altitude and how serious it can be. Most of your photographers will make sure they have water ready for the couple throughout the day. As our eye is constantly on you, we can start to see when the altitude is affecting you. So when choosing your wedding attire, think about your location as well as the season. Will you be hiking to your venue? If yes, they you may not want anything too constraining. Dream your dress around your location.

4) Fresh Summer Menu

One of the most memorable things your guests will remember about your wedding is the menu. Good food is always a plus at any wedding. But how can you up your game for a summer wedding? make it fresh! Have options that will refresh your guests as not only the heat, but the altitude can be hard on them. Fresh fruit salads, refreshing punch, or even a simpler lighter dinning option that won't leave them feeling heavy. This doesn't have to replace the dinning options you are wanting to have, but just having them as an option will leave your guest replenished and ready to dance longer on the dance floor.

5) Personalize your Decor

One things couples tend to do when planning their wedding is making everything perfect! sometimes the smaller personalized decor can be more perfect than other ideas that will leave you more stressed trying to create. Guests will fall involve when they start piecing together the your personalized decor to you. One of the most precise pieces I have seen is from my latest bride and groom. Two people who bond over stories, reading is their love language. When shooting at their venue, they had homemade heart garland around the dance floor. When you walked closer to the garland, you notice that they hand made them out of old books. Some of their guests were able to take some of this garland home and will be something everyone will remember. it's always a joy to find the smaller, more sentimental items that helped create your wedding.

Summer weddings can be the most creative weddings. They tend to be more personalized. More colorful. So when planning your wedding in Telluride, think about your dream. Think about the feeling of the sun shining on you and your partner. It's easy to feel overwhelmed in the scenery. So don't feel shy to ask your Telluride photographer about some possible ideas. They are ready and happy to find a location that is new, and a great statement your your perfect day.
